I'd be more glad it exists if it did...I dunno. I'd be more glad it exists if it didn't hurt the chances for similar-but-better projects to get made.

I'd like to think I can appreciate form over function with the best of them, and what I'm not sure I properly emphasized is that A Cure To Wellness *doesn't* really work on a formal level, because as a collection of images it is too long and too deadeningly repetitive. I can think of several movies just as long, and just as concerned with imagery-over-narrative, that I love. (2001 especially immediately comes to mind.)

The biggest difference between Tim and me (or, moreover, Tim and us)--besides the fact that he can evince a nearly complete indifference to story when it suits him, although we shouldn't go too overboard, the guy disliked both Only God Forgives and Nocturnal Animals, after all--is that he has the attention span of an ancient marble statue. Which is how he finished and loved Hard to Be a God (and Russian Ark, for that matter, and many other movies from the land that secretly rules us); whereas I bailed on the former before the first half hour was up, and found the latter to be astonishingly made and extraordinarily tedious.Hunter Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925220178171355473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633480297352890314.post-37430406720917479012017-03-14T06:55:09.449-11:002017-03-14T06:55:09.449-11:00I think the only two reactions to this film are yo...I think the only two reactions to this film are yours and Tim's, and they're generally for the same reasons. It depends on how you react to form over function, because the function here is a straight-up disaster.

Clearly, I'm on your side. But I do appreciate the fact that somebody was crazy enough to throw money at this idea. You just don't see films like this in the theater. For good reason I suppose, but I'm happy the opportunity was there.Brennanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15399713449347559869noreply@blogger.com
